The plank wagon

She was looking for a handy wagon to carry tools and chicken feed around the garden. The options available locally were either unattractive or wildly overpriced—premium garden wagons easily go for well above the $1000 mark.

“Can you build something like that?”

Of course.

What followed was an exciting challenge in precision woodworking, a chance to design something both practical and beautiful—and, perhaps most importantly, a perfectly good excuse to buy a few new tools for the workshop. Yay!

It all started with a simple small lathe …
… to turn a random piece of alder firewood into a handle.
Temu provided the wheels.
Aliexpress the piano hinges and the swivel base.
The Toolshed the new trim router.
Making a router template for the rounded corner holes.
Wheels on.
Hinge for the handle.
First excitement.
Lots of calculations to get the piano hinges to the correct angles.
Test assembly of the side walls.
Sanding.
Oiling.
Final assembly.
Almost there.
Finished!
I even painted the wheels in orange, as requested by the mrs.
Guess who else is excited.
Isn’t it a beauty? lol
He’ll soon be able to sit in it.
Let’s go to the chickens.
It handles steep terrain well.
It also handles preschoolers well.
