Welcome to the World!

Dear little G.,

You had already travelled across the world with mum when you were still the size of a pea. Even then, you were part of our days, and you might have felt our mix of excitement and love when we learned you were on the way.

Your journey through the trimesters was anything but simple. In the first one, we moved from the sadness of losing your granddad to the frightening moment when we thought we might lose you too. Those weeks were difficult, but you stayed with us.

The second trimester brought calmer, happier days — ones filled with planning for you, buying tiny things we couldn’t resist, and setting up the space where you’d eventually sleep and play. It felt like everything was moving in the right direction.

Then the third trimester arrived with its own challenges: the exhaustion, the worry of you sitting the wrong way up, and the constant wondering about when you’d decide to join us. But beneath all that was a steady excitement, growing stronger each day, knowing we would soon meet you.

What a journey it has been, little one.

The pea, that was once me
Month 5: It’s getting difficult to hide
Month 6: Dining tables are overrated
Staying active at the beach
The ‘this is getting serious’-look in the mirror
Month 7: Ongoing exhaustion kicks in.
Month 9: Embracing the final weeks.
We thought this photo shoot at week 37 would be the last opportunity 😂
Oh-no! Baby is in breech position. He need to turn.
Got the last spot in the birth preparation course
Can carry a whole plate now!
Exercises to help baby turn.
And relax.
Trying everything to make this baby turn.
Looks like a cartoon character 😆
The doctors helped to turn him in the right position. Painful ECV procedure, but big relief!
Making sure he stays in the right spot
Look, he’s kicking!
Week 39: One of the last checkups at the midwife
Week 39: The actually last photo shoot
Wow!
It’s like milking mice. Collecting colostrum.
Eating small portions, many times a day. 🙂
Almost due-date. Checkup at home.
Walking, walking, walking. Can labour please start?
Week 40! Tried everything by now. Coming out of the acupressure massage appointment.
40+3: Midwife suggested doing a stretch and sweep procedure to get things going. Concerns that baby is getting too large for natural birth.
40+4: That same night, just around midnight, the contractions started
07:30: Not even a hot bath can ease the overwhelming pain
14:00: Arrived at the hospital. Where is the doctor for the epidural?!
15:30: Matthew! The rescue is here!
16:00: Look, who’s smiling again. All the pain is gone. But the baby is still in.
The machines keep logging data. The midwife writes her notes.
20:20: So happy about that ice popsicle.
20:45: Push!
21:00: You’re doing great. Keep pushing!
22:00: Little progress. Baby is getting tired.
22:40: Relocating to the OP theater. If the kiwicup doesn’t work, a c-section is the only way for him to come out.
23:00: Combined forces of pushing and pulling.
23:04: He’s out! Welcome, little G.!
A few minutes of extra oxygen supply.
Well done, brave woman!
Sooo cute!
First family picture with the three of us, while still being stitched.
