The new chicken house was a great opportunity to upgrade some tools in our wood workshop. Challenge of the hour was to use all leftover materials that have been sitting around wasting space for almost a decade. Other than some screws, hinges and staples we didn’t have to buy anything for this project. But after everything was finished, we went to buy some new sheets of plywood and premium hardwood for future projects. 🤣

It all started with a small weekend project to build a new cage for the baby chicks.
‘Can we make a new chicken house?’ she said. Sure thing. Let’s get all the offcuts out to make a plan.
That could become the front door.
We have a frame!
The house is up.
It shall be movable. How? Make it in a way that it can be quickly disassembled. In this case to paint it.
Setting it up in the chicken coop.
Adding a solid ladder.
One side can be fully opened for cleaning.
Meanwhile, the little chicks are not so little anymore.
‘We need a cage attached to the chicken house.’ she said. Starting again with a frame.
Next day: almost finished. Sliding door inclusive.
Tadaa! Ready to move in. Only took us 6 weeks. 😂
Egg nesting box.
I was so excited to find the first eggs in there. Turns out they were just well placed encouragement eggs. 😂
Let’s call it ‘Eggmister Abbey’. 🙂
